Xenia Christian School Spelling Bee Winners to Advance

On Wednesday, November 9th, forty of the best spellers in the 4th-8th grades at Xenia Christian School participated in the school's annual spelling bee. Eight spellers from each grade level qualified to spell in the school bee by taking a written test in their classrooms.

After twelve rounds of spelling in the school auditorium with classmates and parents looking on, seventh grader Carolyn Russo was named the Xenia Christian Spelling Bee Champion. Seventh grader Rachel Sweeney placed second, and fifth grader Lanie Clauson took third.

Carolyn will represent Xenia Christian at the Greene County Spelling Bee, which will be held at the Greene County Educational Service Center this coming January 10th. This community bee is one of the many preliminary bees conducted around the country for public, private, parochial, charter, virtual, and home schools, qualifying winners for the Scripps National Spelling Bee near Washington, D.C.

Xenia Christian students, also, participate in the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) Spelling Bee, which, too, conducts a national bee. The top two spellers from each class will represent XC on Saturday, January 21, at the ACSI Regional Spelling Bee at Emmanuel Christian in Springfield.
